Fairmont Pacific Rim has just unveiled Suite X, a one-of-a-kind collaboration with iconic Canadian artist and author Douglas Coupland—and it’s unlike anything you’ve seen before.
Born in Germany on a Canadian military base and raised in West Vancouver, Douglas Coupland is a global creative powerhouse who first broke through with Generation X in 1991. Since then, he has authored 14 novels translated into 37 languages, created visual artworks prized by museums and collectors, and collaborated with institutions such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, Google’s Paris Cultural Institute, and Valentino. An Officer of the Order of Canada and a knight of France’s Legion of Honor, Coupland lives and works in Vancouver.

Inspired by Generation X, the novel that helped define a generation, Suite X is more than just a luxury hotel stay—it’s an immersive art experience. Perched on the exclusive Fairmont Gold floor, with stunning views of Vancouver’s waterfront and the North Shore mountains, this newly launched suite invites guests to literally live inside Coupland’s world.
“I’m very much a product of the late 20th century, and this suite reflects my deep love for that era,” says Coupland. “When I was growing up, Vancouver felt like nowhere—and now it feels like everywhere.”
Every inch of Suite X has been thoughtfully curated by Coupland himself. From original artworks to hand-picked titles from his personal library and the TASCHEN collection, the suite blurs the lines between gallery, studio, and luxury retreat. Think bold pop-art visuals, custom-designed furniture, an in-suite bar, and design details that surprise and spark conversation.
